California’s Favorite Surfer Gadflies Are on a Mission to Save Coral Reefs

We’ve got to hand it to Chad Kroeger and J.T. Parr. They know how to raise awareness about an issue -- and they’ve got the California surfer accent down pat.

The fun-loving duo, which has become famous for their appearances at SoCal city council meetings, recently appeared on Fox News’ Watters World to discuss coral bleaching, a very real, very not cool phenomenon.

So, how do you raise awareness about coral bleaching? You bleach your hair, duh.

“It’s come to our attention that the coral in the ocean is bleaching itself, uh, ‘cause it’s so stressed, ‘cause the ocean’s so hot,” Kroeger told the host. “And it’s actually not cool when it bleaches itself. It’s actually -- it makes it super susceptible to mortality. So in other words, it’s dying. So J.T. and I bleached our hair to stand in solidarity with the coral.”

“Yeah ‘cause like, for a lot of people they don’t know ‘cause it’s like out of sight, out of dome,” explained J.T, mouth agape, pointing to his head. “But we’re bringing awareness ‘cause now it’s on our domes.”
