The City of Culver City is seeking a Planning & Development Director who is eager to oversee an array of exciting projects in a rapidly changing community. Culver City has become a hub for dynamic developments that this role will help spearhead — including one of Apple’s regional headquarters. The Director will report to the City Manager and oversee three Division Managers, 21 other employees, and an approximate budget of $6.5 million and will lead the restructuring efforts of the Planning & Development Department. This newly formed department will contain the following divisions: Current Planning, Advanced Planning, and Building Safety. The Planning & Development Director will lead the Planning & Development Department, which includes 24 staff and operates on an approximate budget of $6.5 million. They will serve as a member of the City Manager’s executive leadership team and work toward meeting the City Council’s broadminded community planning and development goals. The Director will give their team autonomy to be innovative and independent, while also providing leadership, guidance, and support as needed.

The ideal candidate will be a service and solution-oriented person who is highly skilled in both planning, permitting, and development functions. An innovative leader who understands how multi-disciplinary collaborative efforts enhance the ability to provide best-in-class service will do well in this position. The ideal candidate will have a record of straightforward and open communication and a willingness to make effective decisions, as well as the ability to manage conflicting perspectives and priorities.
