Salary: $97,817.76 - $118,898.16 Annually

The Position
Bargaining Unit: Local 21 - Supervisory Management  

Contra Costa County’s Library Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill a vacancy for its Library Collection Development and Technical Services Manager.
 
The Library is made up of nearly 300 employees serving 26 communities throughout Contra Costa County. Its mission is to “Bring People and Ideas Together.” The Library seeks to enrich lives by delivering a consistent, high quality, and inviting experience at all points of contact.

What you will typically be responsible for:

  • Evaluating and analyzing the Library’s collection services needs and ensuring department services, priorities, and materials align with the Library’s mission and strategic plan
  • Building collaborative relationships with staff
  • Managing vendor relationships and contractual agreements
  • Accurately communicating Library polices to staff and members of the public in all job-related contacts.
  • Directing and overseeing unit operations to ensure operational efficiency, high quality service delivery, and excellent customer service
  • Staying apprised of contemporary issues, trends, and developments in collection development and technical services and able to assess their relevance and apply to the library as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications
License Required: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator's license. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator's license will be accepted during the application process

Education: Possession of a Master's of Library Sciences degree from an American Library Association accredited school.

Experience: Three (3) years of full-time equivalent professional public library experience, which must have included one (1) year of supervisory experience.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with collection development
  • Prior experience with Acquisitions or Cataloging

Selection Process

  1. Application Filing and Evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application. Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.
  2. Training and Experience Questionnaire: Candidates will be required to complete a training and experience questionnaire at the time of filing. The responses to the training and experience questions on the supplemental questionnaire will be used to evaluate candidates' relevant education, training and/or experience as it relates to the Library Collection and Technical Services Manager Classification.  (Weighted 100%)

CONVICTION HISTORY
After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with Contra Costa County. DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
