The Safety Coordinator is responsible to plan, organize, coordinate and implement a comprehensive industrial safety program (or City's safety program); to provide expertise in program elements for the organization; and to perform a variety of professional and technical level tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. The ideal candidate for this position must be an individual who has demonstrated work experience in developing and administering a safety prevention program as well as conducting safety inspections in an operational or industrial setting, preferably at a public works facility or a water or wastewater treatment facility. Experience conducting work site inspections involving water distribution systems, storm water collection systems and sewage collection systems is necessary. The incumbent will possess a clear understanding on principles, practices and regulatory mandates related to a safety program. The incumbent at this level is expected to work independently to identify problems, analyze data, and recommend corrective action. Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience in developing and implementing industrial safety program elements, including accident prevention, evaluation, and investigation; presenting and monitoring safety training programs; and complying with mandates related to regulatory program implementation and reporting. Education: Equivalent to completion of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in industrial hygiene, safety engineering, environmental health, occupational health/safety or a related field. Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate valid California driver license. May be required to obtain a specialized safety certification.
