SALARY: $8,160 - 10,897 / Month

Santa Cruz County has approximately 270,000 residents and is situated in the northern part of Monterey Bay, 70 miles south of San Francisco and 35 miles southwest of Silicon Valley. The County's natural beauty is apparent in its pristine beaches, redwood forests, and rich farmland, all in a Mediterranean climate with low humidity and 300 days of sunshine a year. Its unique shops and restaurants, along with a multitude of cultural and recreational activities including theatre, music, art, golf, surfing, hiking, and biking offer a wealth of leisure activities.

 

THE JOB: Under direction, to plan, organize, direct, manage, and oversee the County road maintenance program; to provide strong leadership and direct, through subordinate supervisors, the work of a large staff engaged in a wide variety of road maintenance and road repair activities; to keep written and electronic records and communicate clearly orally and in writing; to skillfully use technology and devices (computers, tablets, phones, hardware, and software) to plan and document work as well as create, maintain, and approve reports, timesheets, spreadsheets, and documents, and to communicate with management, staff, and the public; and to do other work as required. The list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies during the life of the eligible list.

 

THE REQUIREMENTS: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be to have six years of experience in road maintenance or construction work, including two years performing duties comparable to those of a Public Works Supervisor in Santa Cruz County, or performing duties that would demonstrate application or possession of the knowledge and abilities listed for Road Superintendent in Santa Cruz County.

 

Special Requirements: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License (upon hire).
