The Department of Public Works' mission is to provide the community with quality services, maintain and improve our public infrastructures and facilities, and support the preservation of Marin’s unsurpassed beauty. We currently have one full-time (1.0 FTE - 75 hours bi-weekly) position available for a Purchaser II.
The Purchaser II is an integral part of the Procurement team that ensures the County gets the right materials, at the right time, for the right price while following applicable laws, codes and ordinances. The Purchaser II works with various departments throughout the County of Marin and assists with the purchasing process for a wide variety of materials, equipment, supplies and services. Purchasers will work with departments to prepare, release and receive formal and informal bids; review requisitions for compliance with policies, codes and ordinances; and issue Purchase Orders and service agreements. It is expected that the Purchaser will work directly with vendors, departmental representatives and the general public.
The highly qualified candidate has worked in a Public Agency and has experience with various procurement functions. Ideal candidates have experience sourcing quotes; issuing solicitations for bids or proposals; reviewing, creating or issuing purchase requisitions and purchase orders; and using an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. All candidates should be able to effectively communicate established procurement policies and procedures. In addition, the ideal candidate has strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, is self-motivated and dependable and can work within a fast-paced, diverse and interdependent team. The candidate has, or is working towards, a Certified Public Procurement Buyer (CPPB) and/or a Certificate of Public Supply Management (CPSM).

Typically, equivalent to one year of college coursework in business or public administration or a related field, and two years of purchasing experience at the Purchaser I level, preferably in a public agency. Additional purchasing experience may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.
