All eyes were on the Los Alamitos City Council chambers last night, where more than 150 people gathered to support or oppose an ordinance exempting the city from California's sanctuary state law.
Under administrative direction, to manage, plan, and coordinate the activities and operations of the Public Works Department; to coordinate assigned activities with other City departments, divisions, outside agencies, and the general public; and to provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Director of Public Works.
JOB RELATED AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: Operational characteristics, services, and activities of a public works maintenance and construction program. Operational characteristics, services, and activities of a facilities maintenance and construction program. Organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of public works programs, policies, and operational needs. Advanced principles and practices of budget preparation and administration. Modern and complex principles and practices of public works program development and administration. Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
Skill to: Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and software. Operate a motor vehicle safely.
Ability to: Provide administrative and professional leadership and direction for the Public Works Division. Recommend and implement goals, objectives, and practices for providing effective and efficient public works maintenance and construction services. Manage, direct, and coordinate the work of supervisory, technical, maintenance, and administrative support personnel. Select, supervise, train, and evaluate staff. Identify and respond to community, Director of Public Works, and City Manager, issues, concerns, and needs. Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of public works goals.
Successful candidates will be able to show a proven track record in related experience and training. A typical example of qualifying experience and training may be: Eight (8) years of responsible public works maintenance, construction, and contract administration experience including four (4) years of supervisory experience. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major courses in engineering, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
