The City of South San Francisco seeks a progressive and dynamic Program Manager who plans, directs, and manages the overall operation of the Parks Maintenance Division. The ideal candidate is an experienced project manager for park and landscape renovation and construction projects; and a strong organizational leader and strategic thinker with creative and innovative problem solving skills. Familiarity with principles of sustainability and environmentally friendly practices that promote water and energy conservation is important for this position.

This multi-position classification manages several functional areas and is distinguished by its core responsibility for managing programs and activities.  The opening is in the Parks Planning and Maintenance Division. The incumbent develops and implements effective programs and performs a wide variety of complex professional duties. The position is under the direct supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director.

 

QUALIFICATIONS  Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

EXPERIENCE:  Five years of progressively responsible experience as a supervisor, superintendent, or other management/administrative capacity in general municipal maintenance activities or experience in one or more of the following areas:  landscape architecture, parks and general grounds maintenance, including providing direct supervision to others.  Experience providing significant involvement in operations of a public works, parks and facilities maintenance or similar department is highly desirable.  TRAINING:  A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, education, public administration, business administration or a related field.  LICENSES:  Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid California Driver’s license, which must be maintained as a condition of employment.
