Under direct supervision, the incumbent performs a variety of tasks to assist in the operation of the Ventura County Medical Center or Santa Paula Hospital pharmacy.
NEW HIRE/RETENTION/REFERRAL INCENTIVES: Subject to the applicable section of the SEIU 721 MOA 2019-2022, Amendment #6 (Secs. 3801 – 3803):
In compliance with specific requirements, effective 10/12/2022 a regular employee may be eligible for an Employee Referral Incentive of $500.
APPROXIMATE SALARIES:
Pharmacy Technician I: $15.00 - $18.81 hourly
Pharmacy Technician II: $15.00 - $20.73 hourly
Pharmacy Technician - PDP I : $20.72 hourly
Pharmacy Technician - PDP II: $23.02 hourly
EDUCATIONAL/BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for educational incentive. This incentive may be 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% for incumbents in eligible positions based on completion of an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree that is not required for the classification. Incumbents may also be eligible for bilingual incentive depending upon operational need and certification of skill.
AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency – Ventura County Medical Center, Santa Paula Hospital, and Oncology Infusion Pharmacy.
Pharmacy Technicians are represented by the Service Employees' International Union (SEIU) and are eligible for overtime compensation.
The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Regular (including Temporary and Fixed-Term), Intermittent, Per Diem Pool, and Extra-Help vacancies within the Health Care Agency. There are currently two (2) Intermittent vacancies.
NOTE: If appointed at the lower level, incumbents may be promoted to the higher level without further examination upon meeting the minimum requirements, demonstrating satisfactory performance, and in accordance with the business needs of the department.

Examples Of Duties
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
Pharmacy Technician I/PDP I
Operates a computer to complete tasks related to prescription filling, stocking, inventory, and billing;
Assists in the maintenance of other pharmacy records;
Requisitions necessary supplies for daily operations;
Assists in the compounding, preparation, and dispensing of medications, solutions, and supplies where appropriate;
Counts and repackages medications;
Assists the pharmacist staff in the completion of Joint Commission unit inspections;
Restocks and maintains stock and receives, unpacks, and locates incoming medications and other supplies;
Maintains general neatness and cleanliness of the pharmacy; and
Performs other related duties as required.
Pharmacy Technician II/PDP II
In addition to the duties above, the duties of the Pharmacy Technician II/PDP II may include but are not limited to:
Compounds and prepares medications and solutions and distributes supplies;
Assists in the unit-dose medication distribution system;
Assists in the admixture of parenteral solutions, including:
I.V. piggyback medications (IVPB)
Large volume parenteral solutions (LVP)
Parenteral nutrition solutions (PN)
Chemotherapeutic solutions (CTX)
Specialty solutions (critical care medications)
Fills/refills medications and floor stock in automated dispensing cabinets;
Performs other related duties as assigned by a Pharmacist.
Typical Qualifications
These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE
Pharmacy Technician I/PDP I
Any combination of education, training, and/or experience comparable to six (6) months' experience in a pharmacy setting with knowledge of general pharmacy procedures and practices.
Pharmacy Technician II/PDP II
Any combination of education, training, and/or experience comparable to one (1) year's experience in a pharmacy setting with knowledge of general pharmacy procedures and practices.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT (all four classifications)
Must possess and maintain a current California Pharmacy Technician Registration/License.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
This position may be subject to State Health Officer Orders regarding vaccine verification and/or testing. These requirements are a condition of employment. Depending on assignment and work location(s), successful candidates for this position will be required to submit proof of vaccination and/or booster against COVID-19 or request an exemption for qualifying medical or religious reasons during the onboarding process.
