The County of Santa Barbara is hiring an Infrastructure Architect in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Division of General Services.

THE POSITION

We are looking for an Infrastructure Architect who is as comfortable white boarding complex software architectures with a roomful of engineers as they are briefing an executive audience.  As an Infrastructure Architect, you will be responsible for evaluating, designing, building, testing and implementing IT systems. This position reports to the IT Enterprise Architect Supervisor and collaborates with a team of IT Architects responsible for enterprise systems.  You will mentor (but not supervise) ICT’s infrastructure engineers and technicians. 

Our Cloud Migration and Infrastructure Architects will work closely together to support all enterprise infrastructure systems.  The Infrastructure Architect will be an expert in on-premise hyper-converged solutions and will design, extend, alter and modify existing systems on-premise and in the cloud. 

Job duties also include:

  • Define and establish baseline and future enterprise architecture based on County business needs
  • Evaluate IT workloads for cloud suitability, public or private
  • Manage resource demands on the network infrastructure such as bandwidth and storage
  • Develop a roadmap of actions and requirements to achieve a full and/or hybrid cloud model
  • Work with IT Network and Security Architects to ensure secure and compliant solutions 
  • Investigate and incorporate cloud provider pricing schemes into the County financial billing model
  • Hold accountable cloud service providers operating under Service Level Agreements (SLAs)

 

The scope of technologies includes but is not limited to; Enterprise Applications such as Exchange, Active Directory, Identity Access Management, enterprise monitoring, and the Microsoft System Center Suite including Configuration and Operations Manager, Wired and Wireless Networking, VMWare, Storage, Backup, IT Security, Cloud solutions such as O365, Azure, AWS, Google, and proprietary vendor solutions.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE(S)

You will be a seasoned professional with strong communications skills, significant professional experience in your area of expertise specific to a complex government environment, and leadership experience that includes providing instruction, motivating and mentoring others, and successfully building relationships.

Highly Desirable:

  • Certification in:
    • VMWare Certified Design Expert, MCSE for Cloud or Productivity (Infrastructure Architect)
  • BA or BS degree with emphasis in computer science, or information technology

 

Employment Standards:

  • Four years of experience that included analyzing, designing, testing, and implementing enterprise-wide software and hardware on a large scale, including two years of direct experience with a large wide area network; or,
  • Two years of experience performing duties equivalent to those of an EDP Office Automation Specialist I with Santa Barbara County; or,
  • A combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

 

SALARY: $93,870.31 - $114,597.50 DOE/DOQ annually plus additional annual cash allowance of $6,149.26. Standby & overtime pay when applicable. A great benefits package is also included, please see the application link for more details.
