The City of Orinda is situated in southwest Contra Costa County, within a group of secluded valleys surrounded by a distinctive backdrop of rolling hills and mature trees. Its unique, semi-rural setting is approximately 15 miles east of San Francisco and transitions into neighboring communities of Moraga and Lafayette.
Orinda’s Education and Outreach Coordinator is a newly created full time position with a community-wide focus on educating residents and motivating them to mitigate fire risk. Funded by Measure R, a sales tax voted in by the residents of Orinda to protect lives and property in our town, this position is an opportunity for a creative and highly productive professional to truly make a difference.
The person in this role will partner closely with other organizations such as the Moraga Orinda Fire District (MOFD), the Orinda Firewise Council, Lamorinda Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Orinda schools and parents’ clubs and others to create, coordinate and disseminate information to the public and media. This individual will be a linchpin in sparking community action and will be a critical success factor in many of our programs.
The ideal candidate for this position is a marketing and communications or community building professional who is a superstar in raising brand awareness and motivating individuals to act. Our Education and Outreach Coordinator will be passionate about keeping the people and places in Orinda safe from wildfire. They are a self-starter who will use creative and innovative techniques to educate the public about the opportunities afforded by Measure R funds and build a broad coalition of like-minded stakeholders for collaborative outreach. Successful candidates will have the following background:
Qualified candidates should possess the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree in in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or a related field; 3+years of experience in best practices and modern techniques of community education, outreach, marketing, and public affairs.
