ANNUAL SALARY: $127,005 – $154,378 DOE/DOQ

The County of Napa seeks a Director of Public Health Nursing with experience, talent, and dedication to serving our community. This position oversees a budget of $3 million and 14 staff, making leadership abilities essential for the successful candidate. Successful candidates will also have a passion for public health and serving others, along with the technical skills and knowledge this high-level position requires. An ideal candidate will understand the principles and practices of public health nursing program development and administration. Having knowledge of preventative medicine, nursing theory, clinical health care fundamentals, and communicable diseases, along with other aspects of public health is vital to this role.

The Director of Public Health Nursing is the face of Public Health Nursing in the County and is responsible for public health policy development and community health planning. They will serve as a consultant and advisor on public health nursing matters. Essential duties this role provides include: nursing leadership, evaluating nursing programs based on community needs, and implementing plans for professional development of nursing personnel.

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
  • Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible public health nursing experience, including two years of related project management, administrative, and supervisory responsibility.
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in nursing or a related field.
  • Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California Board of Nursing.
  • Possession of a valid certificate as a Public Health Nurse issued by the States of California Department of Public Health.
