Located in Orange County, Irvine is the 13th largest city in California and offers more than 16,000 acres of parks, sports fields and dedicated open space and is home to Great Park.  Reporting to the City Manager, the Director of Community Services oversees the largest City department delivering community events and community service programs encompassing athletics, aquatics, recreation, senior services, and more. Department activities are supported by 148 full-time and 272.15 FTE part-time staff, and a FY2022-23 operating budget of $41.6 million.

To meet the standards of this high-performing city, Irvine expects more than sophisticated technical knowledge and skills. The successful candidate will also be an authentic leader grounded in humility who appreciates the critical importance people play in such an organization. Competitive candidates will offer at least eight years of relevant management experience and a Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree desirable.
