The City of Lawndale is looking for an energetic, innovative, experienced team leader to serve as the Director of Community Services. The Director of Community Services is responsible for the day-to-day operation of all aspects of the department to include, parks and recreation, senior and community services programs, special event programs, and facility rental activities; monitor workflow to ensure compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements; respond, research, and resolve difficult and sensitive public inquiries and complaints; search and secure available non-City funding sources to develop new and renovated park space, recreation facilities and senior services programs; identify community needs and develop and implement appropriate programs; assume responsibility for the development and implementation of department goals; and provide highly responsible and complex administrative assistance to the
City Manager as assigned.
The Director of Community Services must be a detail oriented, articulate, customer service driven professional leader with a high degree of background and experience in various areas of community service and recreation programs. The successful candidate must be an action oriented hands-on working manager, with strong communication and interpersonal skills, experience working in the Council-Manager form of government and understands the necessity of exercising political maturity and acumen to achieve goals and objectives.
The ideal candidate must possess five (5) years of increasingly professional experience in combination of community services, senior services, recreation administration, special event planning, and transportation, including two (2) years managing or directing a parks and recreation or community service division or department. An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. Possession of a valid State of California Class C Driver’s License and Adult, Child, and Infant CPR/First Aid and AED Certificate is required. A Master’s degree is highly desired.
