$4,269 to $5,447 monthly depending on experience. Assist the Road Commissioner in managing and directing the maintenance and operations of the Road Department. Duties include supervising Maintenance Superintendent, road maintenance staff and shop staff; directing the design and construction of projects by negotiating and administering projects and managing payment for services; representing the Department with boards, commissions, developers, contractors, business groups and the public; prioritizing and allocating available resources; forcasting needs for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; preparing annual material bids and ensuring procurement of necessary equipment. Qualifications include knowledge of land use, physical design, demographic and environmental concepts as applied to public projects; management principles and practices; principles and techniques of capital improvement design, construction, funding and long-term maintenance; and principles and practices of automotive and equipment purchase, maintenance and repair. Candidates must have a combination of education and experience which provides knowledge and skills described above. An example would be graduation from a four year college with coursework in engineering and public/business administration, plus four years of administrative or supervisory experience in a roads or public works setting.
