Job Description

The City of Brea is seeking a Community Services Director who is committed, customer service oriented, and a strong leader who can lead the department with guidance, encouragement, creativity, and inspiration. The ideal candidate will be a key member of the City’s Executive Management Team and is expected to quickly assimilate into the group and work closely with the City Manager and other Department Directors on high-level operational and administrative projects. 

The Community Services Director administers and oversees a complex multi-division department staffed with over 65 FTE’s.  In addition to the divisional responsibilities, the Director is responsible for the development of the annual departmental budget; serves as liaison to the Community Services coordinated Commission and Committees; ensures that community events are properly organized, planned, and executed, and provides supervision to division managers and support staff, in addition to other related duties as required.

To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. 

A typical combination is:

  • Possesses eight years of increasingly responsible experience in the delivery of human services, cultural, and leisure services, including some supervisory experience.  
  • Possesses a Bachelor’s degree in recreation administration, public administration, business administration, or closely related f ield, from an accredited college or university.  A Master’s is degree preferred.
