The City of Oceanside is accepting applications for the position of City Traffic Engineer. There is currently one vacancy in the Public Works Department.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
The City Traffic Engineer coordinates and participates in overall transportation planning including the review of proposed developments, evaluation of traffic impacts and resolution of mitigation measures; conducts, reviews and analyzes traffic studies for proposed developments; makes recommendations based on study outcomes; supervises the work of staff involved in performing traffic engineering work including traffic lighting, traffic control devices, streets, parking facilities and other vehicular and pedestrian traffic systems; works with developers, engineers and contractors to review plans and coordinate work involving traffic systems in residential, commercial and industrial projects; reviews plans, maps, specifications and other work for accuracy and conformance with established raffic engineering practices; analyzes and recommends traffic and transportation policies and standards; prepares written reports on transportation engineering projects; serves as project manager in the planning, design and construction of major transportation improvement projects associated with outside agencies; represents the City at various meetings and conferences; serves as liaison for various traffic and transportation engineering projects; prepares funding applications for State and Federal funding programs; coordinates and participates in overall transit planning for the City; conducts special studies; analyzes and recommends traffic and transportation policies and standards; assures effective coordination with surrounding transportation systems; assists in the preparation of long-range capital improvement plans; prepares written reports on transportation engineering-related projects; represents City in community meetings; coordinates transportation engineering-related activities with other City departments and divisions; trains and evaluates assigned staff.; performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Six years of increasingly responsible traffic engineering experience including two years of supervisory responsibility. Training: Equivalent to a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in traffic engineering, civil engineering or a related field. License or Certificate: Possession of registration as a Professional Engineer in Traffic Engineering in the State of California.
