The Position

The City Engineer is a key member of the City's Management Team reporting to the Development Services Director and is responsible for all engineering work in the City, either directly, through subordinate supervisors, or in consultation with the Public Works and Water Utilities Directors. The position is in the Development Services Department and will have direct responsibility for development engineering and inspection and CIP in conjunction with the Public Works and the Water Utilities Directors.

The Ideal Candidate

The City is seeking a highly qualified registered Engineer with technical expertise and strong interpersonal and creative problem solving skills. The ideal candidate will have management supervision and motivational skills, and the ability to work through others to fulfill the City's engineering needs. Candidates will have a can-do attitude and the ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and direct manner, including communicating technical information in a non-technical manner both orally and in writing. The candidate should be a team player who can communicate with people at all levels and serve as a role model and mentor to staff throughout the City. It is expected that the City Engineer is able to come up with creative solutions to complex problems as well as understands his/her role in contributing to the City's economic development efforts. Excellent project management skills are essential to this position.

Candidates for this position must possess six years of professional experience in Civil Engineering, four years of which should have been in a position similar to a Senior Engineer. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering or a related field is required. Possession of a valid certificate of registration as Civil Engineer (PE) issued by the State Board of Registration for Civil Engineers. A valid California Class C Driver's License. Registered as a Land Surveyor or ability to sign Maps is highly desirable.
