The City of Livingston, population of approximately 15,000, enjoys the benefits of a small community in a rural setting. Livingston is located just two hours from San Francisco, the Pacific Coast and the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains. The City is seeking a forward-thinking and visionary individual for their new Police Chief. The ideal candidate will be a proven, effective leader, capable of managing a diverse workforce in a highly active and progressive manner. The Police Department enjoys tremendous support from the Community and City Council, has a budget of approximately $4 million and a staff of 34 full-time sworn and civilian personnel. The City is seeking individuals who will uphold a high level of discipline and morale, but at the same time will be approachable and maintain an open door policy with all staff. The ideal candidate will be a mentor to the staff and have a successful track record of leadership, team building, and conflict resolution. The ideal candidate will be team-oriented and will facilitate communication between Police and other City Departments. The position of Police Chief requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public or Business Administration, or a related field and to include five years increasingly responsible law enforcement experience at the level of Lieutenant or above. A Master’s Degree is preferred. The salary range for the incoming Police Chief is $120,636-$146,640 and is dependent upon qualifications.
Amendment to Requirements: Four (4) years increasingly responsible law enforcement experience including responsible supervisory municipal police work at the command level or above.
Preferred but not required: Completion of Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy, POST Command College, Massachusetts Law Enforcement Training Course (MPI), or other equivalent leadership courses.
