In the heart of the Silicon Valley spanning 19 square-miles, Redwood City (pop. 86,380) is the third largest city in San Mateo County. The Redwood City Police Department is supported by 97 sworn officers, 33 professional staff, volunteers and per-diem support staff, and a total annual budget of $52 million.

The ideal candidate is a compassionate, forward-thinking professional who views public safety holistically and is experienced collaborating with a variety of partners to best meet public safety needs. An established record in local law enforcement that includes breadth in assignments as well as significant managerial experience is expected. Service at the rank of Captain (or equivalent) or higher is strongly preferred. Experience serving diverse populations in an urban setting is vital. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required; a Master’s degree is desirable.
