We are seeking an innovative and proactive Building Official (Building Division Manager) with a positive, forward-thinking perspective. The Building Official (Building Division Manager) will manage all building division functions (building permit issuance, plan check and building inspections). The position reports to the Deputy Community Development Director for Planning and Development.
The Building Official (Building Division Manager) will assist in integrating the City’s vision and goals with the business strategy of the Community Development Department; managing, planning and organizing Community Development services, programs, and operations; developing and implementing policy; crafting and accomplishing department and City objectives, goals, and performance metrics within guidelines established by the City Council and City Manager. The Building Official (Building Division Manager) must exercise a high degree of judgment and discretion along with political acumen and an understanding of the needs of the community.
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, architecture, urban planning or a related field and certification as a Building Official (CABO or ICC); certification as a Plans Examiner and/or Building Inspector is highly desirable.
The position requires six years of increasingly relevant, responsible, progressive, comprehensive experience. Related work experience includes building inspection, plan review, building permit processing services, including three years of management/supervisory responsibility. Knowledge of, and experience with, e-planning and e-permitting are highly desirable.
Possession, or the ability to obtain, a Class C California driver’s license is required.
