The Assistant Director of Engineering Services will provide strong visionary and collaborative leadership with a hands-on proactive approach to public sector engineering services. Serving at the pleasure of the City Manager and under the general direction of the Assistant City Manager and direct supervision of the Director of Engineering Services, the Assistant Director of Engineering Services will be responsible for delivering and managing a full range of engineering services and develop best practices to achieve innovative services in engineering program throughout the City. The Assistant Director will be the direct point of accountability for effective operations of the City's day-to-day engineering programs including; directing, managing, supervising, participating, and coordinating the activities and operations relating to the work of staff responsible for preparing engineering designs and specifications; managing all development review and conditioning; managing public works inspections and contract administration functions; ensuring work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures is maintained; performing the more technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility; providing highly responsible and complex professional assistance to the Director of Engineering and other City staff in areas of expertise, and act on behalf of the Director in the event of their absence. In addition, this position will establish processes and procedures, and develop and enhance staff training and development. The Assistant Director will establish a shared City vision and work collaboratively and cooperatively with all other City departments.
