About the Position: The ideal candidate has solid public sector accounting experience to perform diverse, specialized, and complex work involving significant accountability and decision-making. The candidate independently performs the full range of accounting duties including, but not limited to: overseeing accounts payable/receivable; participate in and oversee all activities related to payroll; works directly with the external auditors to facilitate the year-end audit; participates in the compilation and preparation of District budget; interprets, explains, and applies general and governmental accounting/auditing principles and procedures, laws, and regulations; analyzes financial data and prepares a wide variety of financial reports and statements; prepares reports taken to the Board of Directors and various other committees. Must have knowledge of basic principles and practices of budget development and administration; accounting and finance software systems and other computer software and systems related to accounting and payroll processes; and the ability to analyze, interpret, summarize, and present financial, administrative and technical information and data in an effective manner. The incumbent has a proven ability to build positive and productive relationships, provides excellent customer service to all District departments; possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills; as well as excellent judgment and proactive problem solving skills to effectively plan, organize, oversee, review, and evaluate the work of accounting staff. Work Environment: The Accountant is part of Administrative Services at the District’s office in Los Altos, California and will work in an office environment. This position reports to the Finance Manager. Administrative Services provides finance, accounting, budget, information technology, human resources, and office management to the District’s visitor services, land management, and project delivery departments to enable the District to accomplish its mission.

Licenses & Certifications Required: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
Education and Experience: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, or business administration and two (2) years of responsible professional public accounting experience.
