Ojai City Manager James Vega will take over as the top administrator of Port Hueneme on July 17.
The Port Hueneme City Council unanimously voted to appoint Vega to the position Monday. He’ll earn an annual salary of approximately $239,000, which some have criticized as too low relative to other department heads. As manager of Ojai (population 7,590), Vega has been earning around $181,000. Port Hueneme has a population of around 21,712.
James Vega has served as Ojai City Manager since 2019 and previously served as Assistant to the City Manager. From 2014-2017, he worked as the Senior Management Analyst for Oxnard.
