Gun and Ammo Found in Desk at Sacramento Elementary School

Hours after a mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday, staff at Edward Kemble Elementary in Sacramento discovered a gun and ammunition inside the desk of a second-grade student.

The Sacramento City Unified School District notified parents of the discovery, which was made possible by students. After spotting the gun, the students immediately notified school staff.

The Sacramento Police Department has opened an investigation. Police want to know how the child came into the possession of a gun in the first place.

“Let’s work together and use this incident as a reminder of the importance of ‘See something, say something,’” the district wrote in its letter to parents.

The shooting in Uvalde, Texas claimed the lives of 19 children and two adults. It was the 27th school shooting in the U.S. so far this year.
