Westminster Councilman Censured for Spreading Falsehoods on Vietnamese Media

Chi Charlie Nguyen has been removed from his position as vice mayor of Westminster and formally censured by the city council.

The vote was held Jan. 12 during a meeting that lasted into the early morning hours. The tally was 3-2 with Mayor Tri Ta and Nguyen voting no.

Council Member Thai Do introduced the resolution to censure Nguyen, who is accused of displaying combative behavior during meetings and spreading false information about his colleagues on Vietnamese-language media.

During the meeting, Do played clips of Nguyen’s recent media interviews. Nguyen has repeatedly told news outlets that his colleagues kicked him out of his office at City Hall in a show of “dictatorship” — a claim they say is false. He has been actively encouraging Westminster residents to support a recall effort against them.

District 2 Council Member Carlos Manzo has been appointed vice mayor for 2022.
