Protesters Descend on Sacramento City Manager’s Home

Protesters demanding police accountability marched to the home of Sacramento’s city manager Sunday night, continuing a wave of activism that many officials say has crossed the line.

The march to Howard Chan’s personal residence came less than two months after protesters showed up at the home of Mayor Darrell Steinberg and damaged his property.

What made the latest demonstration even more disturbing were the flyers advertising the event. They contained images of Chan with his name written in dripping red letters, according to CapRadio. In light of a surge in violence against Asian Americans, city leaders slammed the flyers as frightening and irresponsible (Chan is of Asian descent).

A group called “Sactivists” has taken credit for the flyer, but denies any intent to play on the recent rise in anti-Asian bigotry. The group tweeted that it does “acknowledge that the graphic may be triggering” and that it stands “in solidarity with the API community.”
