Del Mar City Manager Christa L. Johnson Steps Down

Christa L. Johnson, who has managed Del Mar for the past year, has vacated her position. The city announced a mutual separation on Feb 16, effective immediately.

The city’s statement is scant on details about Johnson’s departure.

The City Council would like to express its appreciation to Ms. Johnson for her hard work and dedication to the residents and employees of the City of Del Mar during a challenging and difficult time for the City. Under her leadership, the City successfully responded to an unprecedented, 30 percent drop in its operating budget, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, while maintaining essential services to the community.

Mayor Terry Gaasterland also thanked Johnson for her guidance, leadership, and integrity.

Director of Administrative Services Ashley Jones is now serving as interim city manager until the city finds a permanent replacement.
