Fresno Party Throwers Could Face $10,000 Fines

People caught throwing parties of 50 people or more in the City of Fresno could face fines of up to $10,000 under an ordinance passed by the City Council.

The vote was 5-2, with Garry Bredefeld and Paul Caprioglio voting no. The order applies to both residential and commercial properties. Both the owners and the event organizers could face a fine.

The City Council passed the measure in response to rising coronavirus cases which have overwhelmed local hospitals. The county continues to take a more relaxed approach, however. Even a 1,000-person race in Riverdale did not warrant a shut-down attempt from county officials.

“Here in Fresno County we really rely on voluntary compliance,” Fresno Supervisor Nathan Magsig said, as quoted by Fox40.
