Carolina Camarena Appointed Communications Director for San Jose City Manager’s Office
San Jose City Manager David Sykes has hired Carolina Camarena as the next Director of Communications for the City Manager’s Office. Camarena previously served as Public Information Manager for the Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department.
Camarena has worked in communications for more than two decades, with stints in the City Manager’s Office, the Environmental Services Department, the mayor’s office, Parks and Recreation, and the Emergency Operations Center where she has served as Emergency Public Information Branch Co-Lead since July.
Camarena helped create the city’s “Explore Your Park” event. That campaign earned her the 2020 Award of Distinction from the California Association of Public Information Officials.
“Carolina’s admirable commitment and deep passion for her community continues to benefit our residents in her role as PIO for the EOC,” said Mayor Sam Liccardo. “She is widely recognized for her unwavering dedication and collaborative spirit and we look forward to great things from her as the new Communications Director for the City Manager.”
