LAPD Chief’s Comments Spark Outrage
Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore ignited a firestorm Monday night with a bizarre statement made during a press conference with LA mayor Eric Garcetti.
Chief Moore was attempting to condemn the rioting and looting that has taken place in the City of Los Angeles. But he took it a step further, saying the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police—the event that sparked the demonstrations—“is on [rioters'] hands, as much as it is on those officers'."
Moore and Garcetti later tried to clean up the damage. Both of them released tweets clarifying that the responsibility for Floyd’s death rests squarely on the shoulders of the four officers at the scene. Chief Moore has since offered an official apology.
