Caught on Tape: North Carolina Cops Discuss ‘Slaughtering’ Black People

We’ve covered a number of audio and video reveals over the years at CityNews, but the news out of North Carolina Thursday morning is easily among the most disturbing we’ve encountered.

The Charlotte Observer reports that three officers with the Wilmington, NC Police Department were fired after an audit uncovered video of one of them gleefully discussing killing Black people en masse.

“We are just going to go out and start slaughtering them (expletive)” the officer reportedly said, speaking of a coming civil war. “I can’t wait. God, I can’t wait.”

The news comes at a time of heightened racial tensions and nationwide protests against systemic racism and excessive policing. Those protests follow the recent deaths of Black people like Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Rayshard Brooks and, most notably, George Floyd.
