L.A. Metro Transportation Planner Fatally Struck by Car

A 34-year-old transportation planner with the Los Angeles Metropolitan Authority was killed earlier this month by a vehicle while crossing Lincoln Blvd. and Ocean Park Blvd. in Santa Monica. Daniel Chuong was with his brother at the time. The two were training for a marathon.

The obituary for Truong says he died “doing one of the things he loved.” A memorial service will be held Feb. 22 at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Sky Rose Chapel in Whittier.

U.S. pedestrian fatalities have hit a 30-year high and have increased 41% in just the past 12 years. Experts point to distracted driving, primarily from the use of smart phones, as the primary cause.
