Where Can You Afford to Rent? This Map Will Tell You.

Depressing.

That’s the only word to describe a new interactive map of rent prices in California from the Los Angeles Times’ Ryan Murphy and Priya Krishnakumar.

Input your salary and you’ll be shown a list of zip codes in your price range. The Times calculates that’s no more than 30% of your income based on general advice from economists.

For the average Bay Area earner, there is virtually nothing available locally. Los Angeles renters don’t have it easy either.

Sure, we knew the housing crisis was bad. But this map drives the reality home in a stark way.
