California City’s Top Administrator, Public Works Director Placed on Leave

What prompted California City to place two of its top officials on leave? Only a handful of people know for sure.

City Manager Robert Stockwell’s paid hiatus began Monday, April 29 following a closed session of the City Council. Leaders did not offer much explanation, other than confirming some sort of an investigation is underway.

“There were some issues that were raised that need to be looked into,” said City Atty. Christian L. Bettenhausen. Anna Lin will be serving in the interim, he added.

On Wednesday, May 8, Public Works Director Craig Platt was also placed on leave pending an investigation by the Kern County District Attorney’s Office. Again, officials could not disclose the nature of the probe but they did confirm it’s unrelated to the city manager’s.
