Laguna Beach Votes to Keep American Flag on Its Cop Cars

When Laguna Beach decided to add the American flag to its police cars, it never dreamed the new design would cause an uproar. Boy, was it wrong. A vocal group of residents immediately pushed back, calling the red, white, and blue “Police” overlay aggressive and intimidating — even racist.

Some cited the heated environment on immigration and the words and actions of President Trump. Others spoke of the increasing ‘militarization’ of local police forces.

On Tuesday, April 16, the City Council took up the issue. Their decision: the ode to Old Glory shall stay. The vote to keep the graphic intact was 4-1. During public comments, just one person — a former marine — spoke out against it, and that was because he believes it violates U.S. flag etiquette.

Onto the next outrage of the day.
