West Hollywood Voters Pass New Cannabis Tax

Voters in West Hollywood went to the polls last week re-electing three incumbent councilmembers and passing two ballot measures. One of those ballot measures, Measure Y, authorizes a city-wide tax on adult use cannabis and passed with overwhelming support.

Measure Y would implement a 7.5 percent tax on adult-use cannabis sales, and would not apply to medical cannabis or medical cannabis products. The tax will go into effect ten days following the declaration of vote by the City Council.

It’s estimated this cannabis tax will generate $5.5 million annually.
