Activist Ana Maria Jara Appointed to the Santa Monica City Council

Santa Monica welcomed the newest member of its City Council Tuesday with the selection of Ana Maria Jara. She will fill the vacancy left by Tony Vazquez who resigned Jan. 8 following his election to the State Board of Equalization.

Jara has resided in the city for more than 35 years and has worked at Santa Monica College for more than two decades. She previously served as Chair and Vice Chair for Santa Monica’s Social Services Commission and as a member of the Commission for the Status of Women. She is currently a member of the Human Relations Council as well.

Santa Monica’s newest council member was chosen from an initial pool of 76 candidates. She will complete the remainder of Vazquez’s term which expires November 2020.
