The Bellflower City Council has filled the District 1 vacancy left by the passing of City Councilman Joseph Ronald “Ron” Schnablegger in October.

On Nov. 26, the dais voted unanimously to name Raymond Y. Hamada to the seat following the recommendations of a council subcommittee. He was one of nine qualified candidates for the position.

Hamada is a native of Bellflower and an active member of his community. He has served on the Planning Commission for nearly 10 years and belongs to the Bellflower Kiwanis Club. Hamada has more than 30 years of experience in planning and economic development, according to the city. He holds a bachelor’s degree from UCLA and completed post-baccalaureate work at CSU Dominguez Hills.
