Madera Hires New City Manager

Madera councilmembers have hired a new manager for their city.

Yuba City Development Services Director Arnoldo Rodriguez, a Madera native, was unanimously approved by the Council Wednesday night. His three-year, at-will contract calls for an annual salary of $184,000 plus $40,000 to $60,000 worth of benefits.

Rodriguez was one of six finalists for the position, following a nationwide recruitment effort. After his selection, there have been questions about a lack of experience, as Rodriguez has no history in city management or public finance roles.

Before becoming Yuba City’s head of Development Services, Rodriguez served 13 years with the City of Fresno’s Resources and Development Department. He takes over the top administrator position on Dec. 3.
