The Best Cities for Small Business

Small businesses make the world go ‘round. Literally. More than half of all Americans are employed by a small business and small businesses create 2 out of 3 new jobs in the U.S. each year.

Every city likes to claim it’s a friendly environment for small enterprises and budding entrepreneurs. But which ones are really making the cut?

MSN Money just put out its list of the 30 cities where small business owners are thriving. It relied on data from the Kaufman Index of Startup Activity, costs of living, and projected job growth in a given city.

Here were the top 10:

1. Austin, TX

2. Miami, FL

3. Dallas, TX

4. Los Angeles, CA

5. San Diego, CA

6. Denver, CO

7. Kansas City, MO

8. New York, NY

9. San Antonio, TX

10. Portland, OR

San Francisco came in at No. 14; Riverside came in at No. 19; Sacramento came in at No. 21; and San Jose came in at No. 29.
