MuniServices / Avenu: May 2018 Legislative Update

MuniServices (Avenu) regularly updates its broad policy report that provides a synopsis of selected legislative proposals impacting local government revenues. Their current Policy Update is now publicly available, and covers various proposed and qualified ballot measures that will impact local revenues, including the Tax Fairness, Transparency and Accountability Act (TFTAA) of 2018.

As previously reported, the TFTAA is a tax overhaul with far-reaching implications for local general taxes if adopted. MuniServices’ Special Counsel Ben Fay’s analysis includes the “Legal Requirements for Municipal Tax Measures” as well what must be considered for any local tax enacted in 2018 and beyond should the TFTAA be approved by the voters. The initiative is currently under review by the Secretary of State for signature verification.

The report above was compiled by Brenda Narayan, Director of Government Relations at MuniServices, an Avenu company. For 40 years, MuniServices has been a national leader in revenue enhancement and has partnered with over 225 local agencies statewide, including cities, counties and transportation districts.
