El Cajon’s Graham Mitchell Promoted to City Manager

El Cajon’s assistant city manager Graham Mitchell has been promoted to the city manager’s job, effective May 24. The city council voted 5-0 to appoint him last Tuesday ahead of Doug Williford’s retirement. Mitchell will earn $236,000 per year compared to a current annual salary of $210,000.

Williford praised the council’s decision.

“The City Council could not have made a better choice in choosing Mitchell as next city manager,” Williford said. “He has a strong reputation throughout San Diego County as being one of the truly great city managers in this region, and we’re lucky to have him here. I couldn’t be happier with the decision.”

Mitchell came to El Cajon in March of last year after a short stint as Escondido’s city manager. He also previously served as city manager for Lemon Grove.

Mitchell called it an honor and says he will work hard to continue the legacy of his predecessor. He named the reopening of the East County Performing Arts Center, and budget stability among his top priorities.
