Pico Rivera Council Calls for Greg Salcido’s Resignation

City Council members in the City of Pico Rivera passed a resolution Tuesday demanding the resignation of Greg Salcido over comments he made denigrating members of the U.S. military.

Salcido has refused to go

In his first public appearance since the audio tape came to light, Salcido seemed to double down on his remarks. While he said he never intended to hurt anyone, the councilman stood by the crux of his comments, even comparing military service to fast food work.

"My goal as it relates to my students as it relates to the military is to get them to do everything to get to college. It's not just the military. I don't want them working at a fast-food restaurant either," he said. "I don't think it's a revelation to anybody that those who aren't stellar students usually find the military a better option. That's as plain as it's Tuesday night. That's not a criticism of anybody."

That’s a bit of revisionist history, given Salcido’s use of the terms “dumb shits” and “the lowest of our low” to describe members of the armed forces.

Tuesday’s resolution was non-binding so, without Salcido’s compliance, it amounts to a symbolic gesture.

A recall petition could be forthcoming.
