State's First Transgender Council Member Elected in Palm Springs

In a statewide first, transgender candidate for Palm Springs City Council Lisa Middleton won election Tuesday. Middleton is the first non-binary individual elected to a non-judicial office in California.

Middleton’s victory came on a night when two other trans candidates, Danica Roem and Andrea Jenkins, made history in the states of Virginia and Minnesota. Middleton’s win, coupled with that of openly bisexual candidate Christy Holstege, makes the Palm Springs City Council an all-LGBT body

Voters in Palm Springs also approved a sales tax and marijuana business tax measure Tuesday night.
