Los Angeles Gets a New Communications Director

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti named a new Director of Communications Monday. Suzi Emmerling will replace Naomi Seligman who stepped down on Sept. 25.

“Suzi is a proven leader with experience and skills that will be tremendous assets to my administration,” Garcetti said. “I look forward to working with her to advance my agenda for a city that makes a difference in the lives of Angelenos. I am proud to welcome her back to L.A. and onto my team.”

Emmerling has a rich background in progressive causes and national politics. She previously worked as the deputy chief of staff for the U.S. Department of Transportation under President Obama. For two years prior, she served as director of public affairs to former Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx. Her resume also includes stints as regional press secretary for the Obama for America campaign in 2012 and press secretary for the Host Committee for the 2012 Democratic National Convention.
