Gabriel Elliott is Adelanto’s New City Manager

Adelanto has hired its fifth city manager in the past two years. The city’s former director of development services Gabriel Elliott was appointed to the post last month on a three year contract through Aug. 18, 2020. He will earn $175,000 for the first three months and $190,000 after that pending a performance review.

Adelanto officials hope Elliott has what it takes to survive the long haul.

“We’ll make changes as we need to but ... I believe (Elliott) is a long-term (hire),” said Mayor Rich Kerr, who called him “one of the best people-persons I have ever met.”

“His vision is the same as the Council’s.”

Turnover has been a constant headache for the city. In addition to the four city managers to have come and gone since 2015, Adelanto has seen four city attorneys.

The Elliott pick was popular with city council members, who approved his contract 5 to 0. The pick was also praised by commercial cannabis groups.
