La Cañada Flintridge City Councilman David A. Spence Dies at 80

La Cañada Flintridge City Councilman David A. Spence has passed away at the age of 80, according to a city press release issued Tuesday. The councilman is believed to have suffered a heart attack at his home.

Spence’s work with the city began in 1988 when he was appointed to a four-year term on the Public Safety Commission. He joined the City Council in 1992, winning election and serving as mayor six times. He also sat on a number of City Council subcommittees and was involved with various outside organizations.

Mayor Michael T. Davitt called Spence “a source of wisdom, guidance and support.”

“His tireless dedication and legacy of excellence set the standard for our community,” the mayor added.

Councilman Spence was preceded in death by his wife, Alice. They leave behind two sons.
