Antioch Welcomes New Acting City Manager

The Antioch City Council has picked its replacement for terminated city manager Steve Duran, at least in the short term. Public Works Director and City Engineer Ron Bernal was hired as Acting City Manager last Tuesday in a 4-0 vote. He will earn around $216,552, in base pay.

Bernal's promotion means the city is now on the lookout for a new public works director/city engineer. It also means Antioch must pay two city managers because Duran is entitled to a year of severance.

City News covered Duran’s peculiar firing last month. He was already due to step down this summer and, had the city hung in there for just a few more months, Duran would not have been entitled to the generous severance package.
