Public and private fiber networks have received most of the headlines this year, but in early October, free wireless internet stole the spotlight with the City of San Francisco rolling out free wireless internet access in 32 of its parks, plazas, and open spaces. San Francisco partnered with Google to offset some costs for equipment, installation, and maintenance of the wireless network.

Acting San Francisco Chief Information Officer Miguel Gamino was at the forefront of this effort.

In a webinar with ELGL on October 29, Miguel will discuss San Francisco’s effort to make getting online easier and what other cities should consider in similar efforts.

This webinar is part of the ongoing ELGL Innovation Series which has featured Code for America, See Click Fix, and Everyblock. The webinar is free but registration is required. Remaining webinars in the Innovation Series are MuniRent, GovFresh, City of Philadelphia, PA, and Department of Housing & Urban Development.
